As a neuroscientist, I am fascinated by how cognitive problems can be treated to improve the well-being of patients with brain diseases. Various brain diseases present with similar cognitive symptomatology and I am interested in what brain mechanisms underlie these shared cognitive symptoms. I approach this problem by studying the role of neurons and glia cells and their interactions in cognition and in treatments that aim to improve cognition. In the MULTINET team, I will do translational research projects involving molecular, cellular and live-cell-imaging techniques and aim to align my preclinical studies with the clinical studies performed in the team.
I work at VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam (the Netherlands) as assistant professor and maintain collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry and Neuroscience of Paris (France) where I work as a visiting professor.
