Eva attended the “Organisms in their environment” meeting of the Dutch Research Council. A digital twin is a virtual model of a real system, whether that’s an ecosystem, an organ, or a patient, that is continuously informed by data. It lets us simulate scenarios, predict outcomes, and test interventions without touching the real thing. Seeing how differently each field builds and uses them was eye-opening.
She gave a short pitch on how we plan to use a digital twin to improve surgical planning for patients with glioma. By running virtual surgeries, we can investigate how removing tissue affects the patient’s brain network before the actual operation takes place.
